That is for the TS Astra for the AH Astra the car is designed to drive at 30km/h even if the roof is stuck

We have just been informed by one of Astra convertible roof mechanics that another bad batch of Aluminum blocks to suit Astra convertible roof latches have arrived from China.

The supplier now offering them is based in the Brisbane suburbs

They have recently moved address and from all reports the roof open three times after driving the car from the operators place of business.

Then just stops working

We would encourage people to speak up and publish the details when these doggy operators take your hard earn cash and not care to assist when things go wrong......

When you can get in touch with them they tell you to go to Holden or Hose doctor to resolve these issues ... blaming everything except the Chinese made latches

 Replacing these Chinese made Aluminium blocks is the only way to solve the issues that occur with latches jamming and hydraulic hoses blowing.

Claiming that latches are assembled in Brisbane with parts that are manufactured in China does not make the parts Australian made.

In the past three months ALNO Product Services have assisted Holden Dealers, the General Public and a number of mechanics by fully reconditioning the complete latches that have had the bad aluminium blocks.

These new operators seem to be just after a quick buck.

They don't answer the phone when you call them to buy latches imagine what happens when you call them to tell the latches have stopped working.

From the clients we have assisted not one of them have been able to contact the supplier by phone once that latches stopped working and in one instance a client flew from Adelaide Brisbane to explain the problem as the supplier would not answer the phone

On some occasions when fitting roof latches or Hydraulic hose the roof can sometimes stop working or it starts and stops you push the button and then it starts again.

These cars are great to drive that is if you have looked after your car and that means caring for your roof.

The roof really needs to opened monthly, just to keep the parts moving, even if you have the plastic parts fitted in your latches.

If you are expecting these cars to have there roof closed for six months and then you want to open it, you are expecting disappointment. It is also a good idea to open the roof when you are at home or not in a hurry if it has been a period of time when the roof has not been opened.

I imagine that in many cases people are reading this after the roof has broken or they are a mechanic looking at advice on how to get a roof moving again.

Some blog sites have suggested that bolting these latches is a solution to solving a latching problem and yes it can work for a period. On the other hand when you think about this in terms of engineering how can 2 bolts and some glue hold a a few pieces of plastic together when a solid piece of plastic cannot last in some cases longer than 3-4 years?

Firstly ending April 2013 the Team at ALNO Product Services have supplied 167 Latch sets across the Globe and assisted 237 Astra Owners get there roof moving again.

This has included 12 replacement kits for latches that have jammed by another Queensland based company offering a solution of a low grade aluminium material ..... the Aircraft grade aluminium ALNO Product Services offer a higher degree of flexibility which reduces the chance of latches jamming furthermore it protects the electro-hydraulic control system from failure. 

Secondly the team at ALNO Product Services would like to Announce the the supply of a composite Aluminium Plastic material that is the latest in materials technology that has been developed over 2 years in conjunction with the university of Technology Sydney. The composite Aluminium Plastic offers a higher degree of flexibility from the plastic and yet still offers the rigidity and strength characteristics of Aluminium. This material combined with design is closer to the original Bertone design yet offer a higher degree of protection to the roof and hydraulic system  at a cost effective price.

Split bearings don’t crack they are manufactured that way …… Take a look at your bearings does it look like it has cracked in any direction under pressure or a force? ….. Or is it a uniform straight split 90 degrees to the folded / formed bearing sleeve that is formed in a manufacturing machine?

Furthermore these bearings rotate at less than 30 revolutions per minute on a flexible drive shaft which acts as a clutch when the latch jams ….. So I’m not sure where the force comes from to crack harden metal casing of the bearing

Either way you be the judge you could Google split bearing and check out the images ….. And you can Google cracked bearings and check out the images …..Then compare images against your bearings

Or you could go down to your local Holden dealer and ask to inspect the new genuine parts ….

ALNO Product Services are now supplying Qualified Mechanics across Australia with modified roof latches for the Holden Astra Convertible.

Broken Roof latches on your Astra Convertible is a common issue across the range of Astra convertibles. One can assume that the latches have been design to fail as failure of these latches protects the hydraulic system from failure. If the hydraulic system fails the cost of replacing / overhauling it is out weighted by the cost of replacing the roof latch, in terms of labor alone.
